All the lush green mess in front of our humble little apartment.

I’m back baby! The computer crash (read: utter and complete failure) really threw me out of whack when it came to editing and posting photos, but it didn’t stop me shooting. Life has been busy so I’m only getting through the backlog now. I intend to get through a month of photos every day or two until I get caught up, so watch for an avalanche of images over the next week or so.

The computer problem was both a huge pain in the ass and remarkably easy to deal with. On the one hand I had a useless brick as a computer and my old PC decided that it would no longer turn on. I got a loaner from a friend, the very same MacBook Pro which, ironically enough died after a few days the exact same way that mine did. No monitor, no video output, bleh!

Turns out this was a known issue with MacBook Pros from 2007 and 2008 where the video cards would literally burn up. Thanks to it being a manufacturer’s defect they swapped out the entire motherboard for free, but only after weeks of trying to diagnose the problem on my own since I was out of warranty and figured there was no way Apple was going to help me. So, +1 to Apple for fixing it free of charge, -1 to Apple for doing a rush job and mass producing thousands of laptops that overheat. Overall a neutral review.

On the plus side it got me to thinking about my next computer and I’ve decided to build my own that will be able to run both Windows 7 and Mac OS-X. It’ll be a beast of a machine optimized for video and photo editing so no more burnouts and no more staring at spinning beach balls and creeping status bars. The laptop will then do what laptops do best, surf the web, show movies, be portable, but I won’t be expecting unrealistic performance out of it anymore.

Long story short. Pictures are back. It feels good.
